Kostas Avramiotis with Marc Palker, IMA's Chair of Global Board of Directors for FY 16/17

It was during my summer holidays when I received an email informing me that I was one of the winners for the IMA Young Professionals Leadership Program in Jacksonville, Florida. Seven Young Professionals were accepted to attend the IMA board meeting and also were provided the chance to attend the committees discussions prior to the board meeting.

During the first day we participated in the committees’ meetings and we got to know a few of the topics that the IMA is working on. The discussions also set the stage for the board meeting. During these meetings we were asked to express our views in different topics regarding the organization or the CMA. The global board meeting took place in the second day of the program. Each committee presented different topics while the rest of the people asked questions.

The leadership experience was particularly inspiring and constructive due to 2 reasons:

  • Attending an IMA board meeting is a diverse experience due to the interaction and also the discussions that take place during the meeting
  • The CMA campaign was underway which created a stimulating atmosphere

All in all the experience increased my understanding with regards to the organization and also made me realize that the community of IMA maintains the highest standards of integrity and trust. The board members and the volunteers are passionate people who strive to promote education and also make innovations in the accounting profession.

At the end of the program I realized how open-minded you can become by just conversing with the other members of the leadership program.

I would like to thank my mentor Bud Kulesza for his support and encouragement to apply for the program.

Kind regards

Kostas Avramiotis, CMA
